Program Description
Our Functional Fitness Studio is the newest addition to Physical Education & Recreation Programming. We offer 45 minute insructor-led, small group training classes. We use a variety of bodyweight and functional equipment training depending on the class. Equipment includes but is not limited to TRX and Superfunctional suspensions, kettlebells, sandbags, medicine & slam balls, battle ropes and monkey bars. 
  • The Functional Fitness Studio is located on the 3rd floor of Dodge Fitness Center by the squash courts.
  • Class duration is 45 minutes. Max capacity varies according to class type (see below in class descriptions).

  • Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • PURCHASE ONLINE HERE Starting August 12th.
  • You may also purchase in Physical Education 336, Dodge Fitness Center, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. 
  • Participants must have a valid class pack to attend. All packs expire on a semester basis.
Check-in: 
  • Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  • Please arrive early to secure your spot and check-in with the instructor.  

 


Class Descriptions
SuperFly:  A 45 min  class using primarily the SuperfunctionalTM aparatus, a suspended body weight training bar inspired by the trapeez. Other equipment (such as med balls, core bags, etc) may be incorporate, challenging your strength, endurance, and targeting the core. This class is perfect for those looking to combine play with skill. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 10. 
Boxing: 45 min boxing and conditioning class. The coach teaches and drills boxing basics using the heavy bags and mitt work. The class also includes bodyweight training and conditioning intervals. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions are offered and class is open to any fitness level. All boxing experience levels are encouraged from beginner to advanced; the class is designed to let students learn skills and get a workout that suits their goals and experience. Gloves are provided although participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and wraps. Max capacity 12. 
TRX FusionOfferred in Fall and Spring. 45 min  class using primarily TRX and flowing from one exercise to the next. Other equipment (such as med balls, core bags, etc) may be used, but this class focuses on TRX movements, including strength, cardiovascular, and core. This is a great class for those looking to improve mobility and strength, and also looking to gain familiarty with the TRX. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 10. 
ISO:  45 min HIIT (high intensity training) class using any/all equipment in room (suspension trainers, TRX, medicine balls, core bags, sand bags, Queenax jungle gym, body weight and kettle bells). The circuits are designed to mash together isometrics (when you hold an excercise) with plyometrics (explosive movement through an exercise). The isometrics build the strength and endurance you need to properly execute the plyometric component. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 12. 
Functional Conditioning:  45 min HIIT (high intensity training) class using any/all equipment in room (suspension trainers, TRX, medicine balls, core bags, sand bags, Queenax jungle gym, body weight and kettle bells). Circuits can include cardiovascular, strength, and agility drills. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 12. 

Kickboxing45 min kick boxing and conditioning class consisting of moderate to high intensity drills  for kick boxing basics.  Students will use the heavy bags and mitts.  Modifiers and progressions are offered and class is open to any fitness level.  All equipment is provided although participants are welcome to bring their own gloves and wraps. Max capacity 12.

NEW! Core Lab:  45 min class targeting muscles of the core (abdominals, obliques, pelvic floor, erector spinae) using any/all equipment in room (suspension trainers, TRX, medicine balls, core bags, sand bags, Queenax jungle gym, body weight and kettle bells). Modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 12. 


Studio Open Hours
The Functional Fitness Studio is open to ALL MEMBERS of Dodge Fitness Center free of charge during open hours. Open hours are a time to use the equipment in the room for individual, self-guided training. No purchase is required to use the room during this time. 
  • Space is available on a first come/first served basis. If the room is full, the room supervisor will not allow you in for safety concerns. ROOM IS LIMITED TO 12 PEOPLE.
  • All are required to go through a brief walk through orientation with the room supervisor on this first visit.
  • All members must sign in and out with the room supervisor during Open Recreation.
  • Room supervisor manages the safety of the space and reserves the right to make requests of members using the room. Follow all instructions from the supervisor. 

Program Policies
Registration:
  • Register online anytime starting August 12th. You may also register in person, M-F 8am-6pm in room 336 at the DFC.
  • Dodge Fitness Center membership is required to purchase a class pack.  To confirm your membership status, please contact the Membership Office 212-854-2546.
  • Payment must be provided in full prior to attending a class.
  • Payment is by credit card, exact cash or check payable to Columbia University. 
  • DFC members may purchase a package for another DFC member by presenting the other member's valid membership I.D.
Attendance:
  • Members may only attend a class if they have purchased a class pack. You must check-in with the instrucor before class.
  • Participants must bring their CU or DFC ID card to class in order to gain entrance to classes.
  • "Trying" a class for free or watching a class from inside the room is NOT permitted. If you'd like to try a class, you must first purchase the class, unless otherwise noted. 
  • You may not be admitted if the room has already reached capacity or if you are late.
Late Policy:
  • All classes have a 10 minute late policy. No one will be admitted after 10 minutes, even if space permits.
Refund Policy: 
  •  Fall Refund Deadline: Monday, September 9th. NO REFUNDS on Half Price initiatives. 
  • After the refund deadline, only prorated refunds for documented medical reasons will be given. Medical refunds will not be issued after package expiration.
  • You may not receive a  refund due to cancellation of gym membership, graduation, or package expiration. 
  • There is a $10 fee for all refunds.
Class Requirements:
  • Please come dressed appropriately. Most classes require athletic shoes/attire.
  • The instructor reserves the right to turn you away from class if you are not properly dressed to participate.
  • If you have questions about the proper attire, please contact the PHED office.
