Functional Fitness

Functional Fitness is a small group training program where we utilize highly specialized equipment, such as, suspension trainers (TRX and Superfunctional), kettlebells, sandbags, slam balls, battle ropes, resistance bands, and bodyweight training to build the essential foundations for movement in life. These small group training classes are comprised of a variety of cross-training circuits specially designed by our instructors. Because class size is small, participants receive more individualized attention. Classes are meant to be dynamic and challenging, yet adaptable to all fitness levels.

Program runs Tuesday, May 30th - Friday, August 4th, 2023   (No classes: June 19th, July 3rd-4th). 

All classes are in-person only. Policies and schedules are subject to change without notice. No refunds past the refund deadline or on half price initiatives.

Registration & Participation

Summer 2023 registration opens May 8th. To purchase a pass, login through our Member Portal, click on "Buy Membership & Fitness Passes", and select the Functional Fitness Pass.

All participants must purchase a pass to attend.  All classes are in-person only.

Pass holders may drop-in or reserve spots in advance. A DFC membership or student access is required to purchase this pass. 

Refund Deadline: Monday, June 5th. No refunds after this date or on half price initiatives.

Reservations are recommended for all classes. Pass holders may drop-in, space permitting.

Reservations can be made online through our Member Portal.

How to Reserve a Spot

  • Login to the Member Portal
  • Click on "Reserve a Spot in Fitness Classes"
  • Select the type of class you would like to attend
  • Click "Register" on each date and time you would like to attend  
  • Proceed to checkout.
  •  *Note, spots open up 7 days in advance. The capacities in the member portal are inflated to account for no-shows. Actual max capacity is 12. Please arrive on time.

 

How to Cancel a Reservation

  • Login to Member Portal
  • Navigate to the profile icon in the top right corner
  • Select Profile
  • Select Programs > Registrations
  • Click the three dots to the right of the class you want to cancel
  • Select Cancel Registration

All Classes are In-Person

  • All participants must swipe into the DFC using their CUID or DFC ID. No ID, no entry.
  • All attendees must comply with University protocols for accessing the campus facilities.
  • Check-in with the instructor at the studio.
  • Please bring a water bottle and towel. Only refill stations are available. Water fountains are closed.
  • Wear exercise attire, including closed-toe athletic shoes. 

We recommend arriving 5-15 minutes prior to the start of class. Drop-in participants will be admitted at the start of class, space permitting. No-Shows will forfeit their spot to drop-ins at the start of class. No one is admitted after the first 5 minutes of class.

Bag, purses, backpacks and food (unless medically necessary) are NOT allowed in the studio. 

Class Descriptions

The coach teaches and drills boxing basics using the heavy bags and mitt work. The class also includes bodyweight training and conditioning intervals. This class is high intensity, but modifiers and progressions are offered and class is open to any fitness level. All boxing experience levels are encouraged from beginner to advanced; the class is designed to let students learn skills and get a workout that suits their goals and experience. Gloves are provided although participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves and wraps. Max capacity 12.

A varied intensity class using any/all equipment in room (suspension trainers, TRX, medicine balls, core bags, sand bags, Queenax jungle gym, body weight and kettle bells). Circuits can include cardiovascular, strength, and agility drills. Modifiers and progressions will be offered and class is open to any fitness level. Max capacity 12. 

High-intensity workout that alternates between intense bursts of activity and periods of less-intense activity or rest.  Max capacity 12. 

Open Recreation Schedule

Outside of scheduled class time, the Functional Fitness Studio is open to all DFC members free of charge during the designated Open Recreation hours. Open Recreation is a time to use the equipment in the room for individual, self-guided training.

Space is available on a first come first-served basis. Max capacity is 12 people. Bag, purses, backpacks, chalk, food and beverage (other than water) are NOT allowed in the studio. Music may not be played aloud. Patrons may bring their own equipment at their own risk. Studio equipment may not be removed at any time for any reason. Patrons will be asked to discontinue if their usage of the space is inappropriate. Classes and personal training sessions may only be conducted by DFC Personal Trainers and scheduled instructors.
